Laser hair removal uses the energy of a specific wavelength of light that is selectively absorbed by the melanin in the hair and follicle. The heat produced destroys the hair follicle without affecting the tissue around it.

The skin's surface contains thousands of hair follicles, in which the hair grows in cycles. Since only growing follicles are affected by treatment, laser hair removal treatments require multiple sessions to ensure full effectiveness. For most individuals, a six-session course of treatments, with sessions separated by seven to thirteen weeks (depending on the area being treated), will ensure complete laser hair removal.
